We advise that artwork is supplied in the following design programs, preferably supplied in MAC format:
- Quark Xpress (up to v7)
- Adobe Indesign CS
- High resolution press ready pdf
We can also open files supplied:
- Adobe Illustrator CS
- Freehand MX (11)

We do not accept final artwork in Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Powerpoint, Publisher etc or in Corel Draw.
Set Up
Files should be supplied including bleeds; print will be returned at the finished sizes. Please ensure all artwork is centered within the document page. Please ensure no excess artwork remains on the artboard.
Folding & Imposition
Please supply a printed proof that is imposed and folded as required and ensure all artwork supplied that requires a particular imposition or folding is marked accordingly.
Bleed
Please ensure all artwork includes 3mm bleed on all sides (see sizes above), all text and images should be at least a further 5mm from the crop guides. Cutting can only be accurate to around 1mm when chopping small items like leaflets. Please contact us for further explanation if you are unsure. To ensure correct printing an appropriate border will be added to all artwork supplied without correct bleeds.
Resolution
Non-vector artwork should be supplied at a minimum of 300 DPI, any artwork supplied lower than 300 DPI could appear blurred or pixilated when printed. EPS and Illustrator files should have their final output set to 2540.
PDF artwork should be set; overall resolution of 2540, individual line art resolution of 1200 DPI and individual bitmap resolution of 300 DPI.
Please advise if you require an alternative to Acrobat Distiller's Press settings
Colour
Unless specified all colour printing is full colour - completed and saved in CMYK process, Shropshire Printing cannot take responsibility for any unexpected results experienced from artwork not supplied in CMYK. Delete all unused colour swatches from the colour palettes. Do not use Pantone, Index or similar colours unless pre-arranged for specialist jobs and please ensure artwork files do not contain embedded colour profiles.
Please note colours shown on computer monitors, inkjet or laser printers are displayed in RGB and will not be fully representative of final printed CMYK colours.
Pantone
Due to print methods we cannot guarantee matching PANTONE® / Spot colours when printing in full colour (CMYK print). Please discuss your requirements before placing your final order.
Please check Pantone colours against the stock specified — coated or uncoated paper.
Please contact us if you are using any other colour matching system other than pantone.
Ink Coverage
Maximum ink coverage must be no more than 240%. Any thin text and/or artwork will not appear crisp if ink coverage is supplied to high. We recommend a strong, vibrant black is created with 60% Cyan & 100% Black. Please ask us if you require further advice on a particular job.
Rich Black Coverage
The correct way to print black type is to just print black - i.e., with no other colour behind it. However, if you want a solid area of black to look nice and deep, design as a "rich black". This should be 100% black, with a 60% tint of cyan. Larger text (over 20pt) can be applied with the same "rich black" values. Rich black should NEVER be used for small type (below 20pt).
Type
All fonts used should be embedded (PDFs) or converted to outlines (Illustrator EPS). We accept Mac fonts for Mac generated artwork but cannot accept any artwork that requires PC fonts, if Mac fonts are supplied please ensure all and only the correct fonts are supplied including both the postscript (printer) and screen fonts.
Transparencies
If using the transparency functions in Quark Xpress, Indesign, Illustrator or Freehand, generated transparencies must be flattened and the files then converted to PDF or bitmap (TIFF or JPEG) before supplying. Please contact us for more information.
Overprint & Knockout
Please ensure that no elements of the design are set to overprint unless specifically required. We cannot always check for this and it is likely to generate unexpected results. Please advise if you would like to keep overprints.
Quark Features
Please do not use the text display attributes (Bold, Italic, etc) in Quark, instead use font families with suitable choices. Do not change imposed picture sizes in Quark, resize the files in Photoshop / Illustrator and then impose at their full size (or within 10%). These features do not always work when the file is ripped and may generate unwanted results.
Photoshop Files
Please save all Photoshop files as either uncompressed TIF, EPS files or Photoshop PSD files. Photoshop files must be flattened prior to saving, TIF files saved with layers or EPS files containing vector information may not work correctly when the file is ripped and may generate unwanted results. Photoshop EPS files should always be saved with maximum jpeg compression.
Freehand Files
All Freehand generated files should be exported as editable EPS files. These EPSs will be imported in Illustrator to check and print. Ensure all images and fonts are supplied with the EPS.
